Established in 1930 as the Sierra Motel

The motel was located on highway 20 at the Gateway to Grass Valley,
the richest gold town in California.

At its prominent location it prospered for many years.Wealthy travelers, who could afford an automobile, enjoyed parking their automobile right in front of their room unlike the lower class travelers who had to lug all their luggage up to their room in old hotels.

Highway 20 was then relocated about a mile south where it joined with highway 49 and bypassed Sierra.

Over time the motel fell into disrepair due to the lack of traffic exposure and the closing of the gold mine.

In 2003 the motel was bought by Philip & Ginni Green, who spent over a year rebuilding the property to a higher standard than it had ever been.

It now boasts marble baths and showers, designer décor.
Off of the noisy highway in a peaceful quiet atmosphere.

As one guest pointed out

"It looks like a Thomas Kinkade Painting
in real life."

The name was changed in 2006 to the
Sierra Mountain Inn to better reflect the high
standards the Inn now maintains.
